Dr. Jeffrey and Caryn Macdonald live in the village of Shen Vlash in Albania in order to assist at Holy Resurrection Seminary as long-term missionaries. Dr. Macdonald taught for many years at St. Herman’s Seminary in Kodiak helping to prepare Native Alaskans to serve in the Church in Alaska, and looks forward to being able to help prepare Albanians to serve God in the Orthodox Church in Albania.
Christianity, and indeed all religious life, was outlawed in Albania under communist rule. With the end of communism in 1992, the Church has begun to rebuild both Church buildings and the Christian community. Holy Resurrection Seminary in Durres was established to train Albanian clergy and Church workers.
Dr. Macdonald studied at St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Seminary, following an undergraduate degree in Biblical Studies and Archaeology at Wheaton College, in Illinois. He later completed a doctoral degree in Early Christian Studies at the Catholic University of America, in Washington, D.C.
The Macdonalds have five children: Alexander 22, Anna 19, Elizabeth 13, Andrew 10, and Katherine 8. They are seeking supporters to help sustain their work in Albania.
