Family Team – Albania
Families with children, couples and qualified individuals are invited to join in and help lead a family retreat program in Albania. The focus is to offer a “family witness” while sharing the Orthodox Faith and growing as a family in Christ. Parent workshops, children’s programs, family activities and ministry outreach will be offered to Albanian church leaders and their families. There will be opportunities to experience several of the ministries of the Church and go on pilgrimages. This will be an OCMC and Greek Orthodox Archdiocese Center for Family Care collaboration. Families with children are encouraged to participate.
The 2013 Family Mission Team will work side by side with OCMC missionaries and Church leaders to continue building and strengthening family ministry of the Orthodox Church of Albania. Adults and children alike will actively participate in roles of leadership: adults will lead camp programs; children will be involved in preparations with adult supervision. Family activities and ministry outreach will be the primary focus of this Team; sports, arts and crafts, singing and music will also be included. The Team is to provide a positive witness and all participants are called to be exemplary role models as they minister to other families and bear witness to Christ through every action.
In the 20th century, Albania fell under a communist regime and suffered the most severe religious persecution in the world; all forms of religion were constitutionally prohibited and by 1991, no Church infrastructure existed. Under the guidance of His Beatitude ANASTASIOS, Archbishop of Tirana, Durres and All Albania and along with the help of Orthodox missionaries, the Church has been resurrected and continues to flourish. Build upon the foundation that the first ever Family Mission Team to Albania in 2011 began.
Team members will share their life experience, provide fellowship and offer a visible witness of the Orthodox faith. Strong family values; teaching experience; training and/or experience in helping couples and families; camp experience; active members of parish life; and creative and resourceful families, couples and individuals needed. Limited to 20 participants from North America.
