Youth Ministry – Albania
Encourage Albania youth ministry leaders as they participate in a Hunger Strike Camp that will model a creative look at how an Orthodox Camp can expose campers to a mission mindedness and gain awareness of the world around them that hungers and thirsts for Christ.
Hunger Strike is a vibrant program that has been offered in the United States to Orthodox Christian teens striving to make a difference in the world by sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ and giving to those in need. Hunger Strike teens fast while they participate in activities which raise awareness for the needs of those throughout the world who suffer the effects of poverty and who hunger for the hope found in Christ. Students also personalize and embrace their Orthodox faith and grow closer to Jesus Christ and each other as they learn to share their faith.
The 2014 Albania Team, will work side by side with OCMC missionaries and Church leaders to model a Hunger Strike for youth leaders from around Albania. During the coming months, they will be encouraged to offer a similar program in their home communities.
In the 20th century, Albania fell under a communist regime and suffered the most severe religious persecution in the world; all forms of religion were constitutionally prohibited and by 1991, no Church infrastructure existed. Under the guidance of His Beatitude Anastasios, Archbishop of Tirana, Durres and All Albania and along with the help of Orthodox missionaries, the Church is being resurrected and continues to flourish.
This team will be led by OCMC missionaries to Albania, Dn. Stephanos and Alexandria Ritsi. Team members will share their life experience, provide fellowship and offer a visible witness of the Orthodox faith. Team members who have experience in youth work, youth camps or campus ministry are encouraged to apply.
Provide program training to the youth leader of Albania.
