Evangelism – Turkana
Share the Faith in northern Kenya where some of the least evangelized people live. Evangelism will take place in rural areas. Visit communities that first heard of Christianity in 2013 and have begun to respond to the Gospel. Continue to build a relationship with the Kenyans and share your Faith by providing outreach to the Turkana tribe.
The 2014 Kenya Evangelism Team has been invited by Archbishop Makarios of Kenya to help three dedicated Orthodox clergy of the Turkana region nurture and expand the Church. Through the use of Bible skits, stories, and the Jesus Film (in the Turkana language), Team members will present the Good News of Christ’s love for His people.
About 9% of Kenya’s population belongs to peoples only marginally impacted by the Gospel. Lodwar, the largest town in northwestern Kenya with a population of 17,000, is the capital of the Turkana District. The Turkana, who live in this region, are a Nilotic people numbering less than half a million people and are known for raising camels and weaving baskets. In their oral traditions, they designate themselves the people of the grey bull. The Turkana people are one of the least evangelized people groups on the continent.
Share the Gospel and teach the faith in rural areas outside of Lodwar. Assist the Church with its ongoing mission outreach to witness and make disciples by teaching and evangelizing to those who have begun to respond to the Gospel in the Turkana tribe.
This team will be led by OCMC Executive Director, Fr. Martin Ritsi. Participants must be in good physical condition, willing to sleep in tents, hike through the desert and prepared to teach the Faith to non-Christians.
Bring the Good News of salvation to villages in the desert region of Turkana.
