2014 Tanzania Healthcare Team

Traveling From: 5/12/2014 to 5/23/2014; Team Cost: $1370*

Health Care Bukoba

Work with local health care workers at the Orthodox Health Clinic in Bukoba to offer a holistic outreach of the Church of Tanzania, by ministering to the physical and spiritual needs of individuals.

The 2014 OCMC Health Care Team to Tanzania has been invited to work side by side with staff from the Orthodox Health Clinic (Health Centre Ufufuo) in Bukoba, Tanzania, which works to offer quality health care to individuals in the greater Bukoba region. This Team has been asked to assist with offering theoretical and technical skills to staff through peer to peer time, provide consultation and medical treatment to patients.

The Team will offer basic health education for the patients. Hygiene, prenatal and postnatal care of mother and child, when to see a doctor, transmission and treatment of malaria, STD’s, URI, diarrhea, care of febrile children, women’s and men’s health issues and other topics have been requested. Team members may see malaria, pneumonia, diarrhea, stress related illnesses, ulcers, skin diseases, diabetes, eye problems, STD’s, TB, secondary infections from AIDS and other tropical diseases.

While health care in Tanzania has improved over the last two decades, many people are reliant on nongovernmental agencies to cover health care gaps that the Ministry of Health cannot fill due to lack of finances and manpower. His Eminence Metropolitan Jeronymos has led the Metropolis of Mwanza for over a decade and understands the need to offer a holistic health care ministry to bring physical relief to individuals as an outpouring of Christian love. Patients are cared for regardless of religious background.

Medical professionals can give the gift of hope by volunteering their time and talents. Join this Team and become a witness of Christ’s concern for both the spiritual and physical needs of individuals. Health care professionals – doctors, pharmacists, nurses, dentists, health care students, specialists and other medical personnel – are needed.

Become a part of the holistic health care ministry of the Orthodox Church in Tanzania.

Prayer for Missions

God of truth and love: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Hear our prayer for those who do not know You. That they may come to a saving knowledge of the truth, and that Your Name may be praised among all peoples of the world. Sustain, inspire, and enlighten Your servants who bring them the Gospel. Bring fresh vigor to wavering faith; sustain our faith when it is still fragile. Continually renew missionary zeal in ourselves and in the Church, and raise up new missionaries who will follow You to the ends of the world. Make us witnesses to Your goodness full of love, full of strength, and full of faith for Your glory and the salvation of the entire world. Through the prayers of all the missionary saints, Have mercy on us and save us. Amen.
