2014 Moldova Youth Work Team

Traveling From: 7/12/2014 to 7/23/2014; Team Cost: $1010*

Youth – Orhei

Be involved in the spiritual growth of the Orthodox youth of Moldova by participating in the 3rd annual Orthodox Youth Camp. Lead a summer camp and build meaningful relationships with the youth who are curious to discuss how our Faith helps us to respond to challenging obstacles.

The 2014 Moldova Youth Mission Team will travel to Orhei to offer, ‘Water from Stone’ summer youth camp. Together with an emerging youth ministry program of the Church, this Orthodox Camp for teenagers will include religious studies, sports, arts and crafts and fellowship. Before Camp begins, a program for counselor development has also been requested.

Young Moldovans are facing many obstacles in their Christian walk as social pressures from an increasingly westernized society challenges their faith. In Moldova, Orthodox youth programs are still fairly new since its' 1991 independence from the Soviet Union. The weakened state of the family in Moldova (approximately 25 percent of adults have left the country to find work, leaving children with guardians or grandparents) and the plague of generations of atheism has weakened the society’s spiritual foundations.

Moldova, a nation on the cusp between Europe and the former Soviet Union, is one of Europe’s poorest nations due to her history and persistent and unresolved political problems, slow growth of industry and trade, lack of economic independence, and lingering effects of Communism. After a decade of post-Soviet decline, the economy began a more recent positive trend. Today, stark contrasts reflect the country’s dilemmas: chic new cafes with “Free Wi-Fi” stickers hint at the possibility of owning smart phones and laptops, but salaries are often less than $100/week.

The Orthodox Church needs assistance to deepen the spiritual life of the faithful and offer age-appropriate church programs for the youth that will help them as they follow Christ and fight against obstacles and temptations. Due to new found freedoms the youth of Moldova are looking to the Church for guidance and direction in their Christian walk.

This unique opportunity to engage the younger generation of Moldovans allows you to share your Faith and be a part of a Christian camp. Participants with experience in youth ministry and camps are urged to apply.

Share your Orthodox faith with young Moldovans.

Prayer for Missions

God of truth and love: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Hear our prayer for those who do not know You. That they may come to a saving knowledge of the truth, and that Your Name may be praised among all peoples of the world. Sustain, inspire, and enlighten Your servants who bring them the Gospel. Bring fresh vigor to wavering faith; sustain our faith when it is still fragile. Continually renew missionary zeal in ourselves and in the Church, and raise up new missionaries who will follow You to the ends of the world. Make us witnesses to Your goodness full of love, full of strength, and full of faith for Your glory and the salvation of the entire world. Through the prayers of all the missionary saints, Have mercy on us and save us. Amen.
