The Church of St. George is a mission parish located in the Kingdom of Tonga. Photo courtsey of the Metropolis of New Zealand.
"Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit." (Psalm 51:12)
The Orthodox Christian Mission in Tonga, begun only a decade ago, is still in its very beginnings. The lockdowns during the COVID pandemic prevented the Metropolis of New Zealand from sending a priest for 3 years. Consequently, the mission property is in need of repairs and maintenance. In particular, vegetation has completely overgrown the property, the rectory is in need of basic maintenance one would expect after 10 years in the harsh tropical climate, some damage has occurred from unauthorized use.
The scope of this project is to reclaim and beautify the mission property so that liturgical services can resume, and the mission can once again provide hospitality and catechism to parishioners, local guests, and overseas volunteers. Further, the hope is to create a space where everyone who comes to the mission experiences the rest and peace that the Orthodox way of life offers, similar to what one might experience when visiting a well-tended monastery.
Please prayerfully consider making a gift. For more information contact OCMC Missionary Michael Jones or Projects and Grants Manager Santhe Loizos. The project goal is to raise $29,250.
