After 18 years of missionary service in Albania, Gabriela Hoppe now serves as a Mission Specialist through the Orthodox Christian Mission Center, serving the Orthodox Church of Albania under the direction of Archbishop Joan. In this role, she serves remotely from the United States and makes periodic trips to the field.

Gabriela is working to inspire, train, equip, and lead Albanians to proclaim the Gospel and make disciples in Albania. The key to this process is planting and fostering the life of healthy, vibrant, local Eucharistic communities. She feels a tremendous urgency to follow Christ’s command to make disciples of all nations in this land where, less than a generation ago, complete atheism was enforced by the totalitarian communist government. Though Albania has experienced rapid economic development since the collapse of the communist system, the country is still mired in pervasive corruption, and many people are deeply discouraged about their prospects for the future. The Orthodox Church of Albania experienced a resurrection under the inspired leadership of the late Archbishop Anastasios which continues under the leadership of Archbishop Joan. This resurrection is one of the miracles of the Orthodox world today, but there is still much work to be done.

Gabriela, a native of Albania, is a graduate of the Resurrection of Christ Theological Academy and the University of Tirana; she also holds a master’s degree in Children’s and Family Ministry from Bethel Seminary. The Hoppes have three children, Tristan (29), Katherine (27), and Daniel (16).
