Evangelism in Kenya

In Turkana, Kenya—a region known for its harsh climate and scarcity of water—the Orthodox Christian Mission Center recently rejoiced in a remarkable milestone: the mass baptism of 182 catechumens in the community of Chok Chok. Throughout FY2024, more than 700 catechumens have been baptized in Turkana, as part of a Mission Center grant to bring the Orthodox Faith to this remote desert region.

Amidst severe drought conditions, this joyful event vividly illustrates the fulfillment of Christ’s final command, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19-20). Despite logistical and environmental challenges, these baptisms symbolize new spiritual life emerging even in the most barren landscapes.

With ongoing support from the Mission Center in FY2025, the Diocese of Eldoret and Northern Kenya will continue to evangelize and nurture new Orthodox communities in Turkana for a second year. These transformative moments embody our mission of bringing people into the fullness of life in Christ.

We pray for ongoing support to help these communities not only spiritually flourish but also gain reliable access to clean water, essential for sustaining their newfound faith and community life.
