OCMC 2020 Trek4Missions Great Success!
“How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" (Romans 10:15)
Thirty-three teams, consisting of 226 participants, pedaled, walked, ran, and swam a total of 20,114 miles to support OCMC’s efforts to bring the Good News of Christ’s Gospel to the ends of the earth! Their collective efforts raised over $146,000 for missions in just five weeks from August 9 – September 14, far surpassing our original goal of $100,000.
These funds are critical in preparing and sending more missionaries out to the field soon – like Elaine Piniat and the Candelario family who are headed to Sweden, and the Sarigianis family headed to Albania!
Elaine herself participated in the Trek and reflected on the community that formed within Team Sverige: “I loved the sense of community that came with the Trek4Missions. It's one thing when you, as an individual, are passionate about missions and have a heart for sharing the Gospel with others. It's another when you unite with others with that same passion and heart.”
Likewise, Irene Christy was not only active in the Trek's virtual community, but she even formed her team, Friends4Missions, with friends all around the country! She echoed Elaine’s sentiments, saying: “It was great to have both teammates and Strava club-mates, because we could encourage each other. It was fun to see what people were doing for their activities: a regular morning walk; dog-walking; going on a bike ride on a trail; bike riding; or walking while a child had an outdoor sports practice. Hiking in mountains (Appalachian Trail, did I see?). Running around a lake in Albania. Running in New York City. Etc.”
In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, the violence, and the divisiveness gripping our country and world, the Trek4Missions was a beautiful display of what we can accomplish when we work together. The words of St. Paul to the Romans, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" were brought to life in this year’s Trek.
Thank you to all who participated, supported, and made this event such a success, especially our event sponsors: the American Continental Funding and Birchfield & Humphrey, P.A.
