OCMC Board Goes Forth with Vision for Coming Year

OCMC Board of Directors met on May 14 and 15, in Detroit to review the current 2023-24 fiscal year and vision for the coming year beginning July 1, 2024 (Detroit 2024).

Our meeting in Detroit has been so uplifting. We witnessed once again how engaged and dynamic our Board is, learned about the successes of programmatic efforts, and envisioned how we can increase our impact in the coming years, particularly by making our Liturgical Translation work a full-fledged department of the Orthodox Christian Mission Center and developing an integrated strategy to increase awareness across the United States of Orthodox missions,” remarked Board President Dr. Gayle Woloschak after chairing the OCMC’s semi-annual meeting hosted by St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Troy, Michigan this week.

The Board of Directors held its second meeting of the 2023-24 fiscal year on May 14 and 15 to review this year’s progress and set priorities for the coming year. The meetings were held in the Detroit area and hosted by OCMC Board members Patrick Crosson and Valerie Gregory. In addition to the meetings, the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Detroit and His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas of Detroit hosted a dinner for the Board. His Eminence praised the work of OCMC while offering a gift to support the work of the Mission Center. OCMC Executive Director, Fr. Martin Ritsi, expressed gratitude on behalf of OCMC and the Board of Directors for his unwavering support.

Key outcomes of the OCMC Board included:

  • Adoption of the Strategic Plan for the 2024-2025 fiscal year.
  • Report on the more than $1 million distributed year-to-date by OCMC through grants and projects run by missionaries and local church partners to help develop the local Church and a presentation of the vision of how to further refine the processes of soliciting, awarding, stewarding, and overseeing such projects as new proposals are considered for the coming year.
  • Adopting a budget of $6.3 million for fiscal year 2024-2025.
  • Approving a plan to make the liturgical translations efforts, that have been occurring for many years, into a key department of OCMC.

Fr. Martin Ritsi concluded by observing, “Having such strong, committed, and engaged Board members is propelling us forward to new and greater heights as our impact around the world is growing towards our vision of bringing more people to Christ.”
