Development Officer
Help share the Light and Love of Christ with all nations! The Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC) is seeking to fill the position of Recruitment Officer/Teams Coordinator as a part of our Missionary Department Team. OCMC is the mission agency of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America. OCMC is a 501(c)(3) Christian nonprofit organization working to bring people to Christ, establish the Church, and share Christ’s love. OCMC works in over 30 different countries through sending missionaries, providing grants, and supporting liturgical translations to support the growth of the Orthodox Church worldwide.
The Opportunity
As the mission agency of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America, the Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC) has been faithfully fulfilling Christ’s last command “to make disciples of all nations” by bringing the fulness of the Faith to the ends of the earth. Since its inception in 1985 OCMC has evolved to have missionaries all over the world, help the Church become fully established, and share with all people the love of Christ.
The Development Officer represents the Mission Center in all aspects of its fundraising, but particularly among its constituencies who a have a proven record or the potential for major gifts. The Development Officer works directly with the Development Director and Associate Development Director and assists all staff members in the identification, cultivation and solicitation, and stewardship of individuals who may or should have an interest in supporting the mission of OCMC and its programs. The Officer will focus primarily on major gifts, with a discreet portfolio, but will also assist in seeking planned and other gifts.
Main Responsibilities
- Plans, develops, and implements ways to identify, cultivate and solicit prospects for major gifts.
- Provides Stewardship for an assigned list of OCMC constituents, informing, thanking and exploring ways to encourage deeper levels of commitment and increased giving to OCMC.
- Assists, at the direction of the Development Director, other development officers in the strategy of their prospects.
- Assists in the review of material that relates to fundraising—and particularly those pieces that may have an impact on major giving.
- Although Planned Giving is not the primary emphasis of the position, the Officer must remain conversant with basic information in this field.
- Maintains giving records and software for proposals. Stays current on tax laws so accurate information can be provided to prospects.
- Works with the Development Director to support the development committee of the board in its responsibility for philanthropy and major gifts.
- Works well as part of a team but also capable of working independently with minimal supervision
- Must be able to work effectively while travelling.
Candidate Profile
This individual must possess strategic communications skills, with an ability to clearly and convincingly articulate the work of the Mission Center and the case for major gift support of its efforts. The successful candidate will be capable of establishing deep relationships with donors and a demonstrated capability to solicit major gifts. The person should inspire trust and confidence that solicited support is being stewarded in an appropriate and efficient manner. And the successful candidate should be able to successfully collaborate with colleagues in the organization and its partners. Finally, the candidate should understand the basic tenets of Christian stewardship as understood through the lens of the Orthodox Church.
This person may be based at OCMC’s headquarters in St. Augustine, Florida or another city with proximity to a major airport. It is desirable, but not mandated, that the successful candidate be a member of one of the jurisdictions comprising the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America.
Required Capabilities
A Bachelor’s Degree is required and an advanced degree is desirable, but not necessary. A proven record of success in the field is highly desirable, but not necessarily mandated.
The position also requires approximately 35% travel throughout a defined area of the country according to the portfolio assigned.
