OCMC Mourns the Falling Asleep of Metropolitan SOTIRIOS
We express our deep sorrow for the falling asleep of His Eminence Metropolitan SOTIRIOS, the first Metropolitan of Korea. This blessed missionary devoted his life to sharing the Gospel with the world. OCMC Executive Director, Fr. Martin Ritsi, recalls that “His Eminence was a truly blessed man and a pioneer in Asia.”
Orthodoxy was first brought to Korea by Russian missionaries in 1900, and the Metropolis of Korea, under the Ecumenical Patriarchate, was established through His Eminence’s excellent theological training and vision, and was fed by his ministry and prolific writings, translated into numerous languages. He lived at the Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Savior Gapyeong in South Korea. His funeral service and burial will be held at the Monastery.
May his memory be eternal!
