OCMC News - Volunteer Your Talents in Africa this Year!
There are still many opportunities to serve in Africa as part of an OCMC Mission Team this year! Please consider joining today!

Christ is Risen!

Having proclaimed the Gospel to the world in every language we could muster on Pascha Sunday, this season is a great opportunity to reflect on the Church’s activity worldwide. Throughout Africa, in particular, the Orthodox Church is growing quickly!

We’re trying our best to help and facilitate its growth, and so we have quite a few African mission teams lined up for this year. This is your chance to get involved directly!

We are preparing to send 2 mission teams to Ghana, and 5 more to Kenya. These include teaching, youth work, construction, and healthcare teams. Everyone’s talents can be put to good use! Below are more specific details about each of the teams heading to Africa this year.

Ghana:

  • 7/22/2019 to 8/1/2019: Teaching (Accra) - Be a part of an annual Clergy retreat in the Archdiocese of Accra and all Ghana and be part of bringing the example of a self-sufficient Church to the clergy and faithful of the region. Enjoy a time of teaching, fellowship, and spiritual growth. Clergy needed.

  • 7/29/2019 to 8/13/2019: Youth Work (Larteh) - Are you interested in helping the young people of Ghana navigate the challenges of living as an Orthodox Christian in an increasingly challenging society? Participate in a camp that will provide important teaching and lasting fellowship for both counselors and campers.

Kenya:

  • 7/15/2019 to 7/29/2019: Construction (Mugeni) - Assist with construction at the St. Athanasius Orthodox Secondary School in the remote village of Mugeni in the Diocese of Kisumu and Western Kenya. Help build a foundation of Orthodoxy by providing facilities that will prepare students for future studies.

  • 8/5/2019 to 8/18/2019: Healthcare (Kisumu) - Provide healthcare and health education in western Kenya. The Orthodox Church in this region has a holistic ministry which includes vibrant churches, schools, and healthcare outreach. Healthcare professionals needed.

  • 8/10/2019 to 8/19/2019: Teaching (Kisumu) – Be a part of a vibrant women's ministry in the Diocese of Kisumu and Western Kenya. This diocesan retreat brings women from different tribes and regions together for learning, fellowship, and spiritual growth.

  • 12/8/2019 to 12/17/2019: Youth Work (Kisumu) - Contribute to youth ministry efforts of the Diocese of Kisumu and Western Kenya at a conference for youth leaders and young adults. Individuals with experience teaching and youth work are encouraged to apply.

  • 12/8/2019 to 12/17/2019: Youth Work (Nyeri) - Contribute to youth ministry efforts of the Diocese of Nyeri and Mount Kenya at a conference for youth leaders and young adults. Individuals with experience teaching and youth work are encouraged to apply.

Whether you’re a seasoned mission team member, or this will take you far out of your comfort zone, we hope you’ll prayerfully consider applying! These mission teams always make for invaluable experiences - both for those we’re ministering to, and for team members themselves.

Prayer for Missions

God of truth and love: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Hear our prayer for those who do not know You. That they may come to a saving knowledge of the truth, and that Your Name may be praised among all peoples of the world. Sustain, inspire, and enlighten Your servants who bring them the Gospel. Bring fresh vigor to wavering faith; sustain our faith when it is still fragile. Continually renew missionary zeal in ourselves and in the Church, and raise up new missionaries who will follow You to the ends of the world. Make us witnesses to Your goodness full of love, full of strength, and full of faith for Your glory and the salvation of the entire world. Through the prayers of all the missionary saints, Have mercy on us and save us. Amen.
