Rwanda Social Workers for Homeless Youth Program

Orthodox Church in Rwanda

Summary of Field Needs:

Due to factors such as poverty and the aftermath of a genocide in 1994 that killed nearly a million individuals and displaced 2 million more, youth homelessness has created the serious challenge of children not only living on the street but also committing crimes to survive. Social workers who have experience working with youth are needed to help facilitate a Church-run program that focuses on reuniting children with family and preparing them to rejoin a school. Currently, the program is run only two months a year, but with missionary support, it could be expanded. The program is run in conjunction with government agencies and has been enthusiastically supported by local officials.

Length of Assignment: 2 years; may renew.
